Week 1 of the Northern Lights Mug Class a Success
Tim came today to teach our class how to do a northern lights mug. We started by watching a demonstration on how to pour a mug (followed later by how to dump out the excess slip and unmold the mug). Next, we cleaned our pre-fired mugs and then learned about different ways to apply glaze to get different effects on the mugs. Based on what was learned, many of the students then applied 3 layers of black glaze followed by 3 layers of merlot and 3 layers of green (only to top 75% of the mug!) to get the northern lights look. A few did other glaze layer applications. We had a very wide variety of glaze application patterns. It will be exciting next Saturday when we get to see how they turned out (after firing). It was another super class by Tim!
