Board Member Abbie taught almost a dozen participants how to make beaded animals this past Saturday! We made crocs, dragonflies, bees, snakes, lizards, and frogs!
This year we had 42 participants read 324 books!!
Have you ever wondered what reading looks like? This summer in our Library it looked like a toddler on his parent’s lap with a board book. It looked like a grandma with a picture book snuggled up with her grandchildren in a big fluffy chair. It looked like a young girl reading to her younger cousin in a beanbag chair. It looked like one of our True Crime Club members excitedly checking out the serial killer book we just heard about. It looked like a teenager loosing her sight getting one more book in while she still can. It looked like struggling readers taking time from their summers to read out loud (and get help on new words) from Ms. Brae and Mrs. Dianna. There were days we had tons of other work we could have been doing, but we patiently sat side-by-side and had multiple books read to us. And I LOVED every moment of it!! That is what reading looks like: taking time away from the chaos to relax and enjoy the power of a good book!
Congrats to all our READERS!! This summer we had 42 patrons tell us about the 324 stories that took them on an adventure. What will your next adventure be? Stop on in, we have THOUSANDS of adventures at your fingertips!! We look forward to seeing you soon!
We will be teaching how to make Bead Animals this Saturday, August 10th, starting at 10 A.M. There is no registration required for this FREE class!
Last Saturday, May 18th, we had the chance to learn how to do basic macrame. Jenna Schroeder (AKA Knits and Knots by Jenna) taught us how to do her Aurora plant hanger pattern. This was the perfect pattern to go with the planter pots that many of us made in April! She showed us how to do square knots, spiral knots, and the wrapping/gathering knot. It took a little bit to get the hang of the knots, but all of us did! The hangers turned out great and were fun to make. Thank you Jenna for a great class!
Today we saw the results of the dipping class that was held last Saturday. The pots turned out beautiful! It was exciting to see the different results based on colors people chose and how they dipped the pot (the length of time dipped and the depth). We learned about how crawling occurs (bare spots where glaze didn’t stick) and saw examples of it. It was a great class that had super results. Thank you, Tim, for taking the time to do this class for us!! It was wonderful!
On Saturday, April 20th, we had our dip pot class at the fire station instead of outside due to cold weather. (Thank you CCFD IV!!) It was a wonderful class. We had 16 people come to learn how to glaze planter pots using a dip method. It also was exciting that we had 5 sets of parents with their adult kids (and a couple of grandparent/grandchildren in the group, too)! These fun classes are a great reason for family and friends to get together!
Tim started by having a demonstration showing how to pour a ceramic mold, unmold it, clean it, wax the bottoms of the plates and planters, and then he gave us the steps on how to dip the planters to produce beautiful colors. The process involved dipping the pots 4 times, waiting in between to get the glaze just dry enough that the next coat would stick to it. Certain steps were challenging! Trying to dip a big planter into a bucket of glaze took concentration and coordination – especially since you had to try not to hit the sides or bottom! Dipping the plates was messy, but removing the excess glaze was easy thanks to the wax that we applied. We also learned that it was better to get thin coats of glaze on the planters instead of thick coats. Overall, we learned a lot and had a great time.
Thank you, Tim, for another super class! We had a lot of fun! You’re a great teacher!
April 6th, 6 P.M.-9 P.M.
Come join us for another night of fun and games! Try out a new game or teach your kids how to play some of your childhood favorites! Of course, you can’t play games without a snack! We have plenty of those as well!
