Today we saw the results of the dipping class that was held last Saturday. The pots turned out beautiful! It was exciting to see the different results based on colors people chose and how they dipped the pot (the length of time dipped and the depth). We learned about how crawling occurs (bare spots where glaze didn’t stick) and saw examples of it. It was a great class that had super results. Thank you, Tim, for taking the time to do this class for us!! It was wonderful!
On Saturday, April 20th, we had our dip pot class at the fire station instead of outside due to cold weather. (Thank you CCFD IV!!) It was a wonderful class. We had 16 people come to learn how to glaze planter pots using a dip method. It also was exciting that we had 5 sets of parents with their adult kids (and a couple of grandparent/grandchildren in the group, too)! These fun classes are a great reason for family and friends to get together!
Tim started by having a demonstration showing how to pour a ceramic mold, unmold it, clean it, wax the bottoms of the plates and planters, and then he gave us the steps on how to dip the planters to produce beautiful colors. The process involved dipping the pots 4 times, waiting in between to get the glaze just dry enough that the next coat would stick to it. Certain steps were challenging! Trying to dip a big planter into a bucket of glaze took concentration and coordination – especially since you had to try not to hit the sides or bottom! Dipping the plates was messy, but removing the excess glaze was easy thanks to the wax that we applied. We also learned that it was better to get thin coats of glaze on the planters instead of thick coats. Overall, we learned a lot and had a great time.
Thank you, Tim, for another super class! We had a lot of fun! You’re a great teacher!
April 6th, 6 P.M.-9 P.M.
Come join us for another night of fun and games! Try out a new game or teach your kids how to play some of your childhood favorites! Of course, you can’t play games without a snack! We have plenty of those as well!
There will be a Special Library Board Meeting on Monday, April 1st at 6:3o P.M. in the Library. We will be discussing the Amendment to the HR 2205 Bill to change the Udall Public Library’s tax district from the city limits to the USD 463 limits.
The regular Library Board Meeting will be held on Monday, April 8th at 6:30 P.M. in the Library.
All of the Library’s meetings are open to the public.
If you love reading about or listening to true crime stories, our true crime club is for you! The club will be meeting the last Thursday of each month from 7 to 8 PM. No reading is required prior to meeting. When we meet, we will take turns talking about and discussing true crime events that have caught our attention. The library has new books available to read on quite a few cases! The next meeting will be tonight from 7-8 PM. Come join us!
Our class today was great! Participants got to see how their Northern Lights patterns turned out. They all looked wonderful! (The first 6 pics are some before-and-after firing pictures followed by pics of all the finished mugs and of new mugs being dipped.) Tim even gave the class an awesome surprise – a drawing which gave some of the participants the opportunity to do a dip mug! It was interesting to watch the dip process. It went quick and was easy. However, getting the big planter pot into the same 5 gallon bucket next month could be a lot more challenging! Thank you, Tim, for providing such a great class!!
Udall Public Library is teaming up with Health Counts in Cowley County to collect ANONYMOUS input into what resources YOU want to have available in YOUR community in order to make Cowley County a healthy place to live.
Stop by the Library to take the FREE survey either on paper OR on the computer. The survey only takes 15-20 minutes. As an added incentive, we have $10 Winfield Chamber Checks to award to the first 25 survey takers! The checks are good at multiple locations in Winfield. Only one adult per household can take the survey.
Tim came today to teach our class how to do a northern lights mug. We started by watching a demonstration on how to pour a mug (followed later by how to dump out the excess slip and unmold the mug). Next, we cleaned our pre-fired mugs and then learned about different ways to apply glaze to get different effects on the mugs. Based on what was learned, many of the students then applied 3 layers of black glaze followed by 3 layers of merlot and 3 layers of green (only to top 75% of the mug!) to get the northern lights look. A few did other glaze layer applications. We had a very wide variety of glaze application patterns. It will be exciting next Saturday when we get to see how they turned out (after firing). It was another super class by Tim!
On Feb. 24th, Sharlissa led another super leather class. We had a great time learning how to pocketknife holsters. We learned how to use acrylic templates to trace out patterns, how to stamp leather, how to stain and seal it and how to stitch pieces together. It was awesome seeing a piece of leather turn into a very nice looking and very useful item. The holsters turned out great. We are totally thrilled to have Sharlissa teach these classes – they are wonderful!
On Saturday, Jan. 27th, we finished our 2 week air dry class. On Jan. 20th, we learned how to prepare a container to use as a mold and how to form clay into multiple shapes. We then had fun creating our own rectangular dishes out of those shapes. On the 27th, we removed edges from the clay and then learned about acrylic and watercolor painting on clay surfaces. It was an awesome class with Llyonesse! The final products turned out great! It was a lot of fun!
