3rd and 4th Critical Thinking Art Classes Went Great!
**The Discovering How Art Can Affect Our Lives program was made possible in part by a a Peggy Barber Tribute Grant from the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office. We are so excited about receiving this grant and so thankful for their support in making this huge change possible for our library!!! We hope to see you at the classes!
Our third class in the Discovering How Art Can Affect Our Lives program, held on Oct. 8th, was a class over which is easier….designing a card by hand or with computer software. We had 6 participants in the class. After seeing what they were able to use to design, thinking about what it takes to design a card both ways, and wondering how much harder it could be to design with software the participants weren’t very familiar with (or not familiar at all), participants got to design a Thank You card both ways. One of the Thank You cards was to be given to someone in the community to thank him/her for something done. Participants found that both ways of designing had advantages, but a majority found that machine (software) designing was preferred. Everyone had a great time designing and learning together!
On Saturday, Nov. 12th, we had our 4th class – Which is Better – Handmade Cards VS Machine Made Cards. We only had 2 reserved seats in this class, but we were in for a BIG surprise!!! We started the class with 5 participants and one observer, but that what we ended up with!!!! We started by discussing with the initial 5 what they preferred when receiving a card. We talked about store bought/machine made cards and homemade cards (cut by hand using tools, stamped,etc.). Some liked the store bought/machine made, some preferred homemade, and some thought it shouldn’t matter. When asked what they thought a recipient would prefer, more discussion ensued. We had a lot of fun and everyone got to make Christmas cards.
